This popped up a few days ago, but newsgroup traffic is low so I'm
posting about it here:

A bit of an odd choice, given that the Devastation game was released way
back in 2015. It's also a bit of a diabolical tease, since anybody
feeling nostalgic about the game, especially after this toy gets a
release, is in for a rude awakening. As of 2017, ActiVision lost its
license and pulled all the online content, so you can't even get this
game any longer unless you buy a very expensive used copy from eBay or
somewhere.

The Devastation character models were very pretty, but given that they
were basically the G1 designs with more shiny bits, I wonder how much of
a market there will be for more toys based on this specific game.

Zob (Evan Brooks said something once about doing toys with the color
schemes from the Mystery of Convoy game for Famicom, and THAT'S
something that would be fun to see)

We also saw the new Studio Series packaging, which doesn't look great,
but it's not the worst packaging I've ever seen.

The figure reminds me a lot of the Classics Deluxe Prime, in that, it's
hideous in truck mode. And mid in Robot Mode.

or it will no longer be a collectible)

I thought they would've done a cel shaded redeco of just the cab
portion of Commander class Prime and call it good for the Devastation
release, but they went and did a whole new mold? So there are other
Devastation figures coming, right? Like Wheeljack and some other guy? I
wonder if those will be new molds.

This has gotta be a record for the most unique mold G1 Optimus Prime
figures released in a 12 month period.

Hasbro's attempts at cel shading whether to evoke cartoon or video
game looks have so far fallen flat with me. If they could just paint it
good enough I wouldn't care how lane the mold is. Recently in Japan
there was a special version figure from a 1993 Neo Geo fighting game
that showed just how good a video game redeco could be:

Hasbro should hire the fan who came up with this paint job to do the
Devastation decos.
